Manager and Supervisor Training

Course Overview

 This course is designed for Managers and Supervisors who are responsible for managing the safe use and control of forklift trucks at the workplace.

Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)

Regulation 9 (2) of PUWER states: “Every employer shall ensure that any of his employees who supervises or manages the use of work equipment has received adequate training for the purpose of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken”.

Course Content

Introduction

• Causes of Forklift Truck Accidents

• Responsibilities under the HASAWA, LOLER and PUWER

• Approved Code of Practice for Rider Operated Lift Trucks – Operator Training (L117)

• Principles of stability, rated capacities and weight assessment.

• Operator’s Safety Codes (BITA Code)

• Environmental awareness and site specific hazards

• Introduction to the lift truck, including control layout and functions

• Pre-use inspection and fault reporting procedures

• Refuelling procedures

• Theory Test

Summary

Apart from the Employer’s legal obligations, its makes sound business sense to ensure Supervisory

Management are trained to recognise safe forklift truck operation and application at the workplace. Supervisory Management need to be aware of the lifting and handling capabilities of the forklift trucks under their responsibility and control, as well as the importance of pre-use safety inspections, scheduled servicing and thorough examinations of this lifting equipment. In conclusion, trained Supervisors can have an immediate impact with forklift truck safety at the workplace and as a result reduce operational running costs!

Course Duration

 1 Day – Forklift Truck Safety Awareness for Supervisory Management with a maximum of 6 delegates per course.

Certification

As an accredited training organisation we can offer a National photo ID certificate for no additional cost. This then enables the Trainee to operate any machine (with permission) anywhere in the UK. Their names and details are kept on a National Operators Registration Scheme Database. The certificate is valid throughout the UK and will be recognised by both employment agencies and perspective employers.

All training is accredited via ITSSAR – Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register
