Pivot trucks are commonly operated in very small aisles within warehouses. This is due to the wide pivot ability of the truck, allowing it to turn 180 degrees. This makes it easier to be able to manoeuvre through confined racking aisles and stack/de stack stock.
I hold a counterbalance certificate, does this cover the Pivot Steer Truck?
If you hold a Counterbalance Truck certificate, you may attend a 1-day Pivot Steer Truck conversion course to become a qualified operator. However, attending just a counterbalance course does not allow you to drive a Pivot truck and under no circumstances should you do so without having Pivot Steer Truck training.
Due to the different stability elements of the trucks, it is extremely important that you understand how all lift trucks are affected while lifting and driving. The stability triangle is an important factor in fork lifting that we teach, as it defines when the truck is stable and unstable while operating. The Pivot Steer Trucks have a different triangle compared to other Forklift Trucks such as the Counterbalance and Reach, which is why its vital you have been trained separately on each truck you operate on and understand both practical and theory sides of it, as well as the Pre-Use Inspections/Checks.
