The slinger banksman is a particularly important member of the team. The skills they will learn will enable them to work safely whilst in the workplace.
Slinging can be done in many environments, in warehouses often slinging is done from an overhead crane or jib cranes and on construction sites predominantly from either tower cranes or with a forklift fitted with a crane attachment allowing the forklift to act like a crane.
When dealing with large and odd shaped loads, slinging and signalling can be an extremely useful skill to have.
It is particularly important that you understand how to use hand signals in the correct order to direct the crane hook above the load.
There are multiple types of equipment you can use to sling materials and loads around the site/workplace. The most common types used are:
- Synthetic Web Slings
- Chain Slings
- Wire Rope Slings.
Each different type of sling needs to be checked and looked after in different ways. During our slinger/signaller course you will learn all the different checks that need to be made, how to store all your sling safely and all the different angles and adjustments that are involved with all different types of loads.

- Pre-Use Inspection
- Practical Examination
