The deadline for completion of 35 hours, or 5 days of periodic training, for the Driver CPC qualification for HGV and LGV lorry drivers is now less than 7 months away. VOSA have recently warned that they are continually checking the Driver CPC status of all lorry drivers and in 2013 have made 36 successful prosecutions, and imposed 50 fixed penalty notices to drivers and haulage operators for failure to provide evidence of initial Driver CPC training, periodic training or exemption. They have also clearly stated that they will continue to impose fines of up to £1000 on operators and up to £400 for drivers who fail to comply with this new legislation.
Driver CPC training was first introduced in September 2008 and to date over 300,000 bus, coach and lorry drivers have now completed the required first round of five days training and 132,000 drivers have undertaken four days of Driver CPC training.
