Abrasive Wheel Safety Training Berkshire

The main type of abrasive disks are:

  • Aluminium Oxide – For general purpose metal work
  • Silicon Carbide – For granite, marble and concrete
  • Diamond – For glass and granite etc.
  • Aluminium Oxide Resin Fibre – For use on all ferrous metal, considered general purpose for a wide range of materials.
  • Aluminium Zirconia – Offers longer life and faster cutting on ferrous and stainless steel

Something to bear in mind grinding/cutting is classed as hot work and may require a hot work permit certificate in accordance with Health and Safety Regulations

Accidents involved with abrasive wheels:

60% of accidents are cause by contact injuries, for example: Touching the wheel, burns, cuts and gashes.

30% of accidents are eye injuries, for example: Lack of eye protection. PPE is vital in ensuring your safety whist operating an abrasive wheel.

10% if accidents are cause by burst wheels, for example: Manufacturing defect, incorrect use and incorrect disc. Making sure your disk is safe and you are using the correct disk for the task you are going to be completing is necessary for safe use.
