To continue driving for a living, all bus drivers must now have completed their first block (35 hours) of the CPC periodic training. The Driver CPC qualification does a lot to ensure safety of the roads.
New bus drivers must obtain their Driver CPC by completing and successfully passing various theory and practical qualification tests. Thereafter, all drivers must complete 35 hours of training every five years if they want to retain their Driver CPC and continue driving professionally.
Employers are responsible for making sure they only employ bus drivers who carry a valid Driver CPC. A hefty fine can be given to both the employer and the driver if they are caught flouting regulations, and the offence will be referred to the traffic commissioner, who may choose the option of suspending both the driver’s licence and the employer’s licence.
