Common operator errors for forklifting

Fork lifting is a useful tool if done correctly. Many operators that have been using the truck for years tend to pick up bad habits along the way.

These can include

  • Not applying the handbrake and neutral before lifting.
  • Failing to observe completely before moving the forklift.
  • Forks are not set to the correct height/tilt.
  • Forks not positioned correctly to the pallet by using the locking pins.

Generally, these are the most common bad habits instructors pick up on, due to complacency. In order to correct these bad habits, operators must complete refresher training every 3-5 years to ensure that they are still at a good operating standard.
