Jib Crane Training – National and In-House

A Jib Crane is a crane with a horizontal member, normally known as the jib or sometimes the boom. The jib is the operating arm that extends horizontally from the crane. The role of the jib is to support a movable hoist fixed to either a wall or pillar mounted from the floor. Typically, the jib swings through an arc or can be fixed in a way that it provides lateral movement.

There are many types of jib cranes from the most popular freestanding jib crane which can be used both indoors, outdoors and be portable. To the most common used within industrial premises the Foundationless jib crane which is a type of freestanding jib and mounted on a slab and bolted to 6-inch reinforced concrete. These types of jib crane are easy to install, cost-efficient, easily dismantled and transported to a new factory if required. They can lift up to 1000 pounds of weight, have 360-degree rotation but must be used indoors.

So, whether your company or premises already as a jib crane or you are looking at a cost-effective alternative to an Overhead crane, your operators will need to be trained how to do this safely and within the law.

Here at Ace Trainers we specialise and take pride in providing the most current and up to date Crane training. As part of this specialist training, we provide training for the Jib crane.

We can provide Jib crane training on your company site across the United Kingdom or at our COVID secure accredited training centre in Basingstoke.

During the course delegates will be taught both theoretical and practical elements to ensure they are competent and legal to use the jib crane. This is to ensure that staff are co-operating with the relevant legislation.

The legislation in place that they will learn about is the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work 1999.  Training also includes how to operate the Jibcrane safely, how to sling loads on the hook, maintain stability whilst travelling with a load and how to operate the controls smoothly.

This training will then help to prevent accidents and incidents at work and to keep themselves and other colleagues safe whilst using the Jib crane.
