The primary function of lift trucks is to lift, move and transport parallelised goods from one place to another or to aid in the process of loading or unloading of delivery vehicles. However they can be fitted with a wide range of specialised attachments for use with more specific jobs. One common example is a non-integrated working platform sometimes known as a ‘man up cage’.
Any operator of a lift truck that uses an attatchment must be trained on how to use it correctly. Normally this would be included during the “specific job training” as per the HSE ACoP L117. The non-integrated working platform is one attachment that can increase risk and pose a significant risk if used incorrectly which is why correct fork lift truck training is essential. The non-integrated working platform is commonly used with counterbalance trucks and even telescopic material handlers.
